Torn bits of clothing, ruined sections of armor and weapons rusted beyond
recognition litter the floor. Sitting haphazardly upon the top of the
debris are a number of cots with lumpy pelts torn from a wide variety of
animals. No matter the condition of the room, it would appear that several
dozen creatures of the dark consider this place their home.

This area of the barracks appears to be used more as a gathering hall with
rough planked tables erected in the center. The tables show the marks of
hard usage with deep gouges and dark burns decorating the tops. To the
south appears to be a vast bunkhouse filled with smelly cots and debris.

Within the Dha'vol Barracks
The gleaming black rock of Shayol Ghul has been polished to a high shine
underfoot, dark veins of obsidian intermixed with only slightly lighter
shades of gray. A large gathering hall resides to the west. A heavily
guarded barricade sits just to the south and a single table covered with a
pale material seems a stark adornment for a mostly empty room to the north.

Through the blood, sweat and death of human slaves captured in the
Borderlands, the home of the Dha'vol horde has been expanded at the
direction of their Master Akkad. The black colored stone of Shayol Ghul has
been chiseled with precision to a smooth surface and polished to a sheen.

The Well Under the Watchtower
This is the cellar of the watchtower. It is a storage room, well stocked
with dried meat and roots in case it is impossible to leave the tower for
some reason. In the middle of the room is a well, filled to the brim with
crimson blood. Time and effort have been put into digging into the tainted
soils of Shayol Ghul to expand this underground storage area.

Through the darkness, footsteps can be seen in the dust where creatures
have traversed these shadowed stairs. Grunts and growling can be heard

This is inside the watchtower on the hill. This is the entrance floor, with a
large spiral staircase edging the walls, leading up through a trapdoor and
down into a dark dungeon. This is a guardroom, sparsely furnished and with
a small fireplace to prepare food in and to heat the room.

The Twist in the Dark Road
The dark road turns away from the hill to the south, leading north and east.
The hill to the south is topped with a black tower, whose battlements survey
the entire area. The gate to the tower is to the south of here, while to the
north the road enters a cold, dark pass. A cart track leads westwards. The
dark road looks like a black snake crawling through the grey grass.

The dark road twists like an agonized snake from the west to the south. It is
well paved with black slates, hard and unforgiving. It is flanked by black iron
spikes, capped with heads and other, less identifiable body parts. To the east
a small, brown path slinks its way anonymously. The side of the road is
scattered with pits and deadfalls, with some of the earth blasted away.

The Dark Road
The road passes between a hill to the west and a grove of tall pines to the
east. This area is covered in a short, ugly black grass that covers the spare
ground. The road is covered in black slates, polished quite smooth with the
passage of time and countless armies.

These plains are flat, with no features exept for windswept, grey sand and grey
rock, polished by time and the windblown sand. The grey sand feels unpleasant
to touch, itching and stinging. This sand is from tainted rock, and harmful to
all of the light. Somehow, you sense the taint in the sand here seeps from just
to the east. Nowhere around you can anything kindle any hope of rest,
sustenance, or peace.

These plains are forlorn and lost, and the few rocks and tufts of blackish
growth emphasize this rather than detract from the monotony. There is no water
in sight. This place is utterly bleak, and yet quite cheerful compared to the
surrounding plains. Some of the rocks here seems spattered with blood, stained
but never cleansed by the rain.

These plains squish in a disgusting manner with even the slightest
pressure. A small and faint ooze leaks from the ground where too much
weight creates furrows in the ground. To the east the Blight appears lusher
and riper, although the death and decay that permeates the air here is
replaced there by a sickly sweet odor that is no more healthy.

Here the Blight opens right upon the very edge of the Mountains of Dhoom. The
mountain range dwarfs you, and covers the sky as far as you can see along the
horizon. The smallest of the peaks rise in front of you, but the base of the
mountains are completely unclimbable.

The Blight
The waste of the Blight surrounds you. Trees and flowers grow here, but they
are bloated and sickly. Flowers hang on trees and weeds in a parody of spring,
pale and pulpy, waxen things that appear to decay while you watch them. The
air is ripe with the sweet stench of decay, and it is difficult to avoid
gagging when you breathe.

north. The Blight thickens on all sides, and you have no idea how far within

vantage point you can see the Blight spreading far around you. To the south-
west, you can see a clear blue lake which would be a delightful rest from this
foul forest. The Mountains of Dhoom tower above to the north, and the sickly
colors of the blight stretch to the horizons. To the east a few crumbled
towers can be seen in the distance, apparently the last remains of some
forgotten city.

The ruins of the Blight surround you. Vegetation abounds, but everything

to be swallowed by the Blight has yet to be fully devoured.

You find yourself standing before the vague remains of a city fallen long
ago to the ever advancing Blight. By the rundown state of things, it has
been forsaken a very long time. The lichen-covered rubble of seven-foot thick
walls look like they once supported a height of perhaps thirty feet, but now
have been reduced to nearly two and a half. The rest of the city, which
extends farther than you can see in the limiting haze of the Blight, is
little better. The shells of a few buildings are all that has seemed to
survive the corrosion.

Inside the City
All around you there has been a complete leveling of what was man-made. The
walls of the few buildings still standing are scattered and unconnected.
Sometimes you'll see a flight of stairs that climb up to a pile of rubble
twenty feet below it, and the grey rock that most everything had been built
of is covered with lichen and a wet, nasty-looking black mold. The torrid
humidity of the Blight is still present here, but the heavy stench of its
vegetation has been left behind.

As you casually sidestep a large pothole in the pavement, you start down the
main street of the city. Every alley, road and park are strewn with thousands
of worn-down bits of rock along their floors, and many of the walls you pass
have deep rends along their faces where the black mold has taken its root.
Sizeable mounds of stone hail to you from both sides of the road, undoubtedly
where great structures once held to their foundations, too, before they had
finally fallen to that same mold.

You begin to notice that the avenue is becoming slightly more stable and
whole the closer you get to the heart of the city. As your vision continues
up the road to the east, you see a large clearing amongst all the crumbling
rock.

sheer expanse of this marketplace. Underfoot, massive stone tiles make up a
perfectly symmetrical grid of the plaza's floor expanding far out to the east,
even though some of the tiles are missing or broken.

In the center of this marketplace, you are met by the most amount of
completely cleared space surrounding you since entering the Blight - a good
hundred and fifty yard radius in each direction. The sheer weight of the
devastation wrought here by the Great Blight, much like the patient, thorough
weathering of the tide, becomes evident from this vantage point.

Much of the groundwork tiles here have been smashed by the inward collapse of
the city wall. Access to the few old shopbuildings to the west and east is
denied by the large mounds of jagged grey rock. The wall, however, is still
somewhat high compared to most of the other sections you have seen, maybe so
much as fifteen feet of height managing to stand erect. The Blight's
vegetation is yet making its slow progress over and through it.

In the center of this marketplace, you are met by the most amount of
completely cleared space surrounding you since entering the Blight - a good

This winding road looks like it had been beautiful once. The flagstones are
still fairly well meshed together, if their rose-color has pretty much faded
away, and lead up to the mostly collapsed fortress of this proud and rugged

As you continue traveling up the road, it widens and branches out to encircle
the ruined castle to the east. From here it looks like someone has taken a
