Below the Ancient Oak
Out of the mists before you rises a massive old tree. Its gnarled roots
and branches seem to whisper secrets long forgotten to the ages of man,
though it has dreamed for aeons. Gazing skyward you can barely make out
ancient branches reaching out almost protectively over those trees which
surround it, as though warning off any unfortunate woodcutters that may
happen upon this reach of the forest.

Twilight Hollow
The ground falls away from the rest of the forest here, creating
a small hollow where little light penetrates. It smells very damp, and
you quickly locate a small pool which has collected in the bottom of the
hollow, no doubt the reason for the animal tracks. Few trees grow here,
as the light does not allow any trees to grow here, though a few bushes
still manage to survive.
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]
Thick Undergrowth
The bushes and undergrowth in this part of the forest have grown very
thick, making it almost impossible to progress through the brambles and
thistle. In spite of the barriers, it looks as though you can force your
way through the leaves in almost any direction, hopefully to someplace
where branches don't constantly sting your face.

Through the Darkness
The trees bend overhead here, blotting out every trace of light and
preventing any type of bush from growing here. Amidst the massive tree
roots several types of mushrooms and fungi thrive in the darkness,
slowly preying off the trees which protect them from the light. The sound
of water can be heard from somewhere nearby, as though a stream were
snaking through the forest.

o HP:Beaten MV:Winded > Wandering in the Forest
There is a little more space to move around here, and your progression
is a little less tiring, as the trees thin out a bit allowing you to
move in what could almost be called a straight line. The ground slopes
up slightly to the south, while it dips off to the north and east.
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]

* HP:Beaten MV:Winded > Edge of a Low Ridge
The land rises to a point here, allowing a bit of a view of the forest
surrounding it, no doubt the forgotten dream of once becoming a peak.
Gazing off to the north and south you can see the cliff walls that
border the valley, and far off to the west there appears to be a lake,
if your eyes don't deceive you. A bit to the northwest a rather peculiar
tree rises above the rest, as though trying to reach the clouds.

Eastern Point of the Ridge
Though the trees still fight for space here, they seem to thin out to
the east as the land rises along a natural ridge. The rocks here seem to
be making it more difficult for plants to take hold. It appears that
from the heights of the ridge it would be possible to see the entire
valley.

* HP:Beaten MV:Winded >
Clearing in the Forested Hills
This area of the forest opens up a bit, allowing spaces between the
trunks for animals to pass through more easily, no doubt the origin of
the numerous birds you can hear singing from here. Through the forested
hills nothing can be seen but more trees, though the land seems to mount
towards the sky to the south, perhaps allowing a view of the surrounding
lands.

* HP:Beaten MV:Winded >

Thin Forest
The wood is light and airy here, allowing almost unhindered travel under
the leafy branches. The amount of life here is amazing, for every inch
of the wilderness seems to be filled with insects, birds or small forest
animals going about their business almost in harmony. At least the order
of things here seems to be in careful balance.

Upon a Slope
The ground slopes down from the northwest here towards the southeast,
making travel difficult. The trees don't seem to mind, having no trouble
taking root in the rocky earth, though the foliage isn't overly dense
and allows light to reach the ground more or less unhindered. Glancing
around it seems that the path of least resistance lies down the slope
to the east.

Small Opening in the Forest
The trees break away from this small irregularly shaped opening, as
though a large rock prevented roots from taking hold in this area. For
this brief section of the forest you can see the sky above you, drifting
by with the passage of time. The trees look most promising to the north
and west as ways to proceed back into the forest.

Wandering Through the Forest
Leaves dance in the breeze, creating entrancing patterns with the light
which cause the trees to swim in and out of focus. All that is visible
in every direction are trees, going on for what could possibly be
forever, though you seem drawn to the east and south, as though they
have more to offer than the rest of the forest.

A Ring of Mushrooms
The air has become slightly damp here, as though it had rained recently,
and in the darkness of several overhanging trees a ring of mushrooms has
sprung up. It is about four spans across, and the wealth of mushrooms
ringing the surprisingly green grass makes you wonder if they are safe
to eat, though you doubt it. The trees open out slightly to the north
and west, and appear to open up a bit more than this area.
[ obvious exits: N W ]

* HP:Beaten MV:Winded > Dampened Ground
Water has soaked the ground here, making the air very musty and damp
although the ground is still firm enough to walk on. No doubt a result
of this, the plant life surrounding you is remarkably healthy. The trees
and bushes are incredibly green and seem to be full of life, rising into
the air forcefully and creating shimmering patterns in the light breeze.

Forested Terraces
The ground rises to the west in a series of five fairly level terraces
to the higher forest above, as though it were a giant natural staircase.
Among the grass and rocks here a small trickle of water seems out of a
tiny crack, indicating a high water level, though it would barely be
enough for a fox to drink. Through the trees the ground slopes off to
the south.
[ obvious exits: S W ]

n
* HP:Beaten MV:Weary > Young Forest
Young trees fill this area of the forest, growing from the ruins of what
appears to have been a small and contained forest fire sometime within
about the last ten to twenty years. The trees are doing fine, though it
seems decidedly odd to contrast these trunks with those you've seen in
this area that are many times older. The ground drops over a series of
four irregularly shaped terraces to the east and rises to the west.
[ obvious exits: N E W ]

n
* HP:Beaten MV:Weary > Recovering Forest
The forest thins out slightly, the trees looking as though they are
slowly recovering from a fire sometime in the recent past. The ground
is slightly damp, and the air smells slightly musty. Soft sounds fill
the air, yet cannot be pinpointed. The ground slopes off to the
southeast and upwards to the northwest.

Trail in the Woods
This small trail continues on to the south, and seem to fade away not far

The ancient forest upon which a cloud of oppressive darkness hangs seems to
constrict upon the path as it breaks through heading east. The darkness

The forest nearly engulfs this small time etched path into nothingness. A

decaying leaves and pine needles seem meant to hold the earth together.
