An OOC proposition

Post by isabel » Thu Feb 13, 2020 11:17 pm

1) Everyone is busier in life
2) Time for RL stuff is very very important and more meaningful than ANY grind work on a text game
3) Some things on the game are lots of fun but also quite easy now (getting stats, eq, xp etc)

There is no REAL value to spending time re-levelling, sitting in col, re-equing. It's not like the fun of the game depends on doing it. It's definitely enjoyable to do once in a while - reqing from scratch, wandering around releveling/exploring etc.

Why dont' we just leave people's eq - except for rares and uniques - when we pk. That way EVERYONE can SAVE TIME and do the other smob/explore/ex stuff only when they FEEL like it, not as a pre-req to play. It just cuts short the 'dead' time and maximises our fun playtime.

If you are PRO fun, then let's formalise this! And we can make room for the oldbie exceptions like Jaster and Razhak who may never agree - we can still have 99% of people doing this.

I generally leave equipment minus a vial or two (and rares/uniques) unless I'm trying to re-eq.

Can't speak for all seanchan, but in my, I don't know, long time playing it, unless someone needs the gear, usually we leave what we don't need, or swop out upgrades/take coin/vials...
Makes me happy when I exit col, and have most of a kit, so I tell myself it makes others happy when I return the jesture.
Now, of course, if one of ours ripped, and no sign of a return, or someone actually needs it, we'll always take, I'd say.

The sentiment is always there, but usually things just dont work the way we might want. Like dying in group pk. Even if nobody needed your gear, or intended to return, it is just too much of a hassle to sort through who died with what. Or when someone returns your gear, and it just happens to Go missing before you get out of circle cause someone else found it. Pretty much everyone is always willing to return my gear, and i'm always willing to return gear. It just cant be helped that sometimes circumstance prevents returns for one reason or another.

Part of the thrill of this game is losing your stuff when you die. If there is an "automatic" return policy you will get people just suiciding themselves in PK, because it doesnt matter to them anyhow: their eq will be sitting somewhere waiting for them..

This was actually expressly forbidden after Illian/Tear clanneds had eq-return agreements in their wars. This would lead to inflated qps returns for people in PK.

I sometimes do leave eq, especially if someone put up a good fight, but it is rare with me. Honestly the times people left my eq I can count on one hand. This does not mean I do not appreciate the gesture, but I am vehemently against making this a policy. I do not think leaving eq should be fobidden, thats up to the people involved, but I for one will most likely take sets of eq and dump them on DS for DSers to re-eq off.

I can see both sides of this,

I can see Razhak's point about the reduced risk reducing the thrill of pk. I can definitely see how it would increase QP cause people would die more. It would take away from the shakey hands pk from fear of death etc.

but on the flipside isnt increased qp also increased PK? Like from what I've heard, there used to be many more players which meant more pk which meant more QP for those involved. Like people in game talking about how they mastered in under 2 weeks, good luck doing that these days unless you're Jestin hitting multiple in RK or whatever. There are many less people now than before, and those who PK regularly are much more aware of how to avoid unnecessary risk. This isn't true of all players, but many will avoid fighting if they dont have an advantage which leads to a battle of wills, who can be bored longest before hitting. If the risk is less then people will be more inclined to just say eff it lets just try, and hopefully lead to closer more bloody fights.

I feel like the majority of people who still play are/were very dedicated to the game and make the time to reeq or have established a position that allows them easy reeqs, and those who haven't just play less. I think it all comes down to what you find enjoyable. Some people enjoy the killing meaning something and the sense of relief they didn't die, some enjoy trying to outplay others and dont care if the others loose anything or they gain anything. I'd like to see something like a 50% drop chance for each slot personally, with rares dropping 100% so it's sort of slightly less punishing sometimes but that'll never happen so eh.

At the end of the day the game is what it is and if you like it you play it, but sometimes it's easier to just play something else when you dont have a lot of time because it's just less effort. Wotmud might give that scared of death feeling, but the effort required is only worth it if you have the time to deal with it or the experience to bypass the negative side of it. Its a lot of fun sometimes either way.

if you need gear just chat/narrate. Someone will help. I don't think we should worry about gear at this stage. Plus, there's not enough of us around.

Aside from what Razhak mentions, there is another angle to this. Right now, in most clans, there is a mix of players who are more pk oriented, who are more smob oriented and some who are more rp oriented. Most players participate in those activities in varying degrees, so if there's no pk, they might end up smobbing instead. Those who spend time smobbing put gear in the chest for those who are more pk oriented and aren't self sufficient, making them an integral part to a clan and the game.

What you are proposing could upset that balance, because smobbing for reeqing would be less of a necessity. That could lead to smobbers being regarded as second rate players even moreso than they are currently. You may find no value in the time spent re-eqing, but there are players who smob so that they can contribute in some way and they find value in that.
